Okeh 8269 - Two Great Location Recordings
Get it Fixed Blues by Clifford's Louisville Jug Band (Chicago)
Compton Ave. Blues by Bennie Washington's Six Aces (St. Louis)
Okeh sent out a number of recording teams in the 1920s to record local bands playing in their home towns. Here are two great example of the music they captured. These bands have an entirely different sound than the polished New York recordings. And, to make things even better, the record is in very good condition. There are a few light and mostly non-sounding surface marks and just a trace of groove wear on side one. There are no cracks, chips, deep scratches, needle runs, stressed grooves or any other problems, so the record plays loud and clear. I'll grade it an 8 on a scale of 10.
