Rarity: this is rare record to find in anything like a decent condition! This album was issued by Island and sent to shops minus shrink wrap, so the normal storage and handling issues quickly occurred! I made sure I got my copy as soon as HMV Southampton opened on the day or release, so this fate did not affect my copy! The handling issue is made far worse in that a fairly cheap grade and fragile card was used for the gatefold cover, and 99% of what’s out there will have significant creasing, rubbing within the black finish = colour loss, and general split on the top and bottom edges of the cover holding the vinyl! I have brought and sold a fair few copy of this album over the last twenty years, but none have ever matched the copy I secured on day of release, so what you have listed here was my ‘keeper copy’, therefore highly rare and collectable in this condition!
Condition: overall a really great condition copy, and what will be a final upgrade I’m confident for the lucky bidder. The record is graded on the following basis:
Outer cover: This cover had the inner sleeve and vinyl all quickly separated on day one, so this cover does not have any top or bottom edge splits. The spine looks stunning with no wear or creasing. Very minimal and extremely lightweight creasing in the front and back panels, and only the tiniest amount of rubbing on the lower part of the rear panel. This is a seriously fragile cover and this one looks brilliant! All panels are beautiful flat and with a mirror-like soft sheen. So even with the tiny rubbing on the rear and marginal creasing, I have no hesitation in grading this cover excellent plus condition! This is the best condition I have owned of the rare release over the last twenty years!
Inner: lovely thicker card glossy inner is in superb condition with no rips or tears, and I have no hesitation in grading this inner mint minus (-) condition.
Vinyl: the record looks amazing in black vinyl, and the album has been played loudly today and it plays superbly, with minimal background noise. This is an album with lots of soft, introspective songs with many quite passages, and this is a great listen! Nothing much to note on the visual side – nice deep glossy finish and minimal if any hairlines as you would expect with a record that has been carefully put away and stored for the last twenty years. There does seems to be a minor pressing mark in the surface of the vinyl at around 10’clock (see picture) when you catch the record at a certain angle under harsh fluorescent lighting, but this is non-sounding. Overall vinyl condition graded at excellent condition. I believe I would have played this copy on a top-end deck around 10-15 times, and it is clear that this is a well looked after vinyl. Handled with care and quickly transposed it into a soft, thick plastic protective cover.
