Amsterdam's The Outsiders were never chart fixtures, but their final release with the original line-up-vocalist Wally Tax, guitarist Ronnie Splinter, drummer Leendert "Buzz" Busch, and bassist Frank Beek-now looms large in the garage rock canon. A cornerstone of the Nederbeat scene, the group pivoted from snarling r&b to expansive psychedelia with startling ambition. Tracks like 'Misfit' and 'Zsarrahh' open the floodgates with fuzzed-out melancholy, while 'Daddy Died On Saturday' and 'The Bear' pair theatrical vocals with jagged, off-kilter riffs. There's a surreal, fever-dream edge to 'Doctor' and 'Prisonsong', but also real pathos in 'Wish You Were Here With Me Today'. Initially a commercial flop, this record now reads as a daring, self-assured work - raw and visionary, teetering between collapse and transcendence. What once alienated listeners now feels prophetic.
