We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. Really hard to find these days ... the ORIGINAL September 1971 release on yellow Epic of the great funk blues guitar hero Shuggie Otis, all of 18 years to his talented credit!
Includes the scarce original printed Epic Records inner sleeve!
More importantly, includes the highlight LP track: supreme cosmic funk infectiousness of the title song and Shuggie's most famous composition, "Strawberry Letter 23", a swirling, swinging mid-tempo breeze inspired by his girlfriend's scented stationery.
When Shuggie Otis was 18, he released what has become to be one of the most complete albums of the early 70s and perhaps a fan favorite collectible.
At it's heart, Freedom Flight is a blues album - but unlike those albums that came before it, it is a blues so forward thinking without sounding entirely alien, it is hard to pinpoint influences or relatable musicians. Blurring the lines between psychedelic, orchestral pop, floor-stomping blues, Hendrix and jamming in a sundazed haze, Shuggie presents 7 tracks ranging from lengths of 2:30 to 13:00. The longer tracks that close out the album, "Purple" and "Freedom Flight" might very well be the best, jammers of the sort, rock songs to have come out by this time on albums that were not completely thrust in the public spotlight.
Shuggie's guitar playing is essential listening. You can hear influences of Santana and other Woodstock luminaries in his plucking, but perhaps the most striking thing is the direct line you can draw from many of his licks to some of Prince's best moments (and yes I know they look alike). Shuggie will almost certainly be remembered as the kid who wrote "Strawberry Letter 23" which was later popularized by The Brothers Johnson or maybe he will be remembered as the guy who put out Inspiration Information a few years later, inspiring many of the best musicians and jazz groups of the next 20 years. Despite this and despite the legacy of influence that Shuggie has left in his short career (he hasn't recorded much over the last 30 years), potentially "Freedom Flight" is his most important moment. It's an album that says "hey I can do what you do better than you can, and check this out too..."
Freedom Flight is a treasure of an album, and a vision rarely matched.
The "Fan Man" elaborates further:
"Ice Cold Daydream" is a nice little organ-driven rave-up, and "Strawberry Letter 23" is much better than the Brothers Johnson's slick remake (and Otis is every musician on this one track!). "Sweet Thang" is a low-down barrelhouse blues with some fine leads and an irresistable laid-back vocal. "Me and My Woman" marries B. B. King's laser-axe approach to a menacing funk groove. His bass work is more interesting than his blues guitar on "Purple," but the free-jazz-lite atmospherics of the title track are worth at least eight of the 12-plus minutes .... and that's only the starting highlights of this legendary LP "

CONDITION: The cover: Rated: "EX" (excellent) to M- hard to find this clean, no more than a trace of wear at outer edge but isignificant as the cover is all very stiff and rigid all over. The colors are bright, the seams are solid, no seam splits, no faded colors, no bends, no writing ...
The vinyl: Rated: near M- beautiful as it plays clean without surface interference anywhere! Both yellow Epic labels are very clean
Overall not pin-point perfect but guaranteed upper level final collectible to an essential release from 1970.
