Crank: High Voltage (2009) is the insane, over-the-top sequel to the 2006 action film Crank, once again starring Jason Statham as hitman Chev Chelios. It picks up literally seconds after the first film ended, with Chelios falling thousands of feet from a helicopter to his apparent death.

However, Chelios is not dead. He's scooped up by Chinese mobsters who remove his "nearly indestructible" heart and replace it with an artificial one, powered by an external battery pack. The plan is to harvest his other organs for black market sale. Chev, of course, escapes.

The central premise of Crank: High Voltage is even more frantic than the first: Chev must constantly find ways to electrically shock himself to keep his artificial heart charged, otherwise, he will die. This leads to a series of increasingly outrageous and often darkly comedic scenarios where he uses everything from car batteries and jumper cables to power lines and even static electricity generated by intense friction (including a highly public sex scene).

His mission is to track down the Chinese mobster, Johnny Vang, who has stolen his original heart, which has already been transplanted into an aging Triad boss, Poon Dong. Along the way, he encounters a host of bizarre characters, including his ex-girlfriend Eve (Amy Smart), who has become a stripper, and Venus (Efren Ramirez), the twin brother of his deceased associate Kaylo.

The film is a non-stop, hyper-stylized barrage of violence, profanity, and dark humor, known for its kinetic, often handheld camera work and disregard for logic or realism. It's a pure adrenaline rush, pushing the boundaries of action cinema to absurd extremes as Chev races against time to retrieve his own heart.
