THIS IS AN ORIGINAL VINYL COPY OF JOHN FAHEY'S "BLIND JOE DEATH" FROM 1964 [NOT THE FIRST LIMITED EDITION OF 100 (OR 95, SOME SAY) DONE IN 1959.]  THIS IS TAKOMA  C-1002. 

 

ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BACK COVER IS PRINTED, IN NORMAL TYPE AND CASE,


“THIS RECORD IS A LIMITED PRESSING, SECOND EDTION.  TRANSCENDENTAL WATERFALL/ON DOING AN EVIL DEED BLUES/ IN CHRIST THERE IS NO EAST OR WEST AND UNCLOUDY DAY RECORDED IN BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA, IN APRIL, 1964, IN THE STUDIO OF AN ANONYMOUS BENEFACTOR.”


Etched in the vinyl by the label (can’t recall term for that) are “TAKOMA VOL 1” and then “SIDE 1” and then a symbol.  Hard to get a good picture of it, but you’ll get the idea.  It may be a trademark of the letters E and D, for Ed Denson, who was the producer.

 

COMES WITH 8-PAGE BOOKLET WITH ESSAY.  ITS BACK COVER ADVERTISES TAKOMA ALBUMS UP TO C-1009, AND THE ONES FROM C-1006 UP HAVE ASTERISKS, WITH FOOTNOTE “IN PREPARATION, SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE MAY 1, 1966.”

 

RECORD IN VG+ CONDITION.  A FEW LIGHT SCRATCHES AND SCUFFS.  PLAYS GREAT.  NICE AND QUIET, NO SKIPS.  ALBUM COVER HAS A FEW SPLITS,  MASKING TAPE ON BOTH BOTTOM AND TOP EDGES FOR 5 INCHES.  SPINE IS FINE, NO CRACKS.  SOME SHELFWEAR ON FACES.  Tiny burn mark on booklet, as shown in photos – it carries through, lighter and lighter, a few pages.  Incense, perhaps.  All is quite legible, though.  Yes, someone played the record a bit and thumbed through the booklet, forty years ago.  It’s not NM, but it’s in great shape for a rare classic.  Cleaned.  These don’t come around too often.

 

Sent in pro record mailer, within an extra layer of newspaper.  Disk out of jacket, in new white sleeve, within poly sleeve.  Original sleeve also included.
