Coltrane Jazz is the sixth album by John Coltrane, released in 1961 on Atlantic Records, catalogue SD 1354. It marks the first appearance of the early John Coltrane Quartet on record, featuring pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones.

Offered for auction is a 53 year old original Atlantic vinyl release "Coltrane Jazz", stored carefully and treasured for many years. It was bought at the world-class jazz vinyl shop, on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, The Record Collector. Purchased in the early 1990's, and paid a hefty price even then. At that time, I don't believe there was a reissue. The LP was bought in excellent condition, played only a few times. We are not record dealers, but possessing a high level of appreciation of 60's jazz, this rare LP is offered here for sale in very good condition as described. Played on a decent turntable and not a professional system, there does not appear to be any problems with ticking, hissing, no scratches, etc.

COVER: VG condition, no tears, or other damage. Cardboard is sturdy, please see photos. Some slight scuffing along the right edge, a slight S shape mark on front, not very noticeable. Some light wear and light scuffing on back cover. Slight age shows on some of the black copy.
LP: Excellent. There is one very light visible scuff on Side 1, Track 3, "My Shining Hour". No sound differentiation on this cut, or affect the sound quality when played. No other visible or audible wear or damage on Side 2.
