By The Beautiful Sea was a nostalgic musical comedy set in Coney Island at the turn of the 20th century (circa 1907).

  • The Story: Shirley Booth stars as Lottie Gibson, a warm-hearted boarding house mistress for vaudevillians. The plot centers on her romance with a Shakespearean actor, Dennis Emery (played by Wilbur Evans), and her efforts to help him pay off his debts while dealing with his daughter's disapproval.
