We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. The Original 1968 first pressing ((clean)) VINYL of one of the true 'heads' psych-rock bands from L.A. California...this is their story in a nutshell:
But first, commentary to our byline heading to this listing suggests the record is in the competition as being one of the most over-looked, under appreciated and therefore underestimated album from the '60s. The reason may very well be the group is known for the hokey 'Don't Bogart That Joint' a tongue & cheek filler that struck gold when it was selected for the iconic EASY RIDER film in '69. Get past that, and the similar "Last Call For Alcohol" and you'll get the meat dreams of an amazing array of self penned tracks that (UPON REPEAT PLAYS) become so infectious they'll be stuck in your head all day long. Not a phenomenon when one follows the path thereafter...this band contained three prolific song writers, two of them went on to writing 'monster' contemporary music for major stars of today including top movie soundtracks ("Titanic" etc.) ... dig into many of the tracks on this LP and you'll find intelligent high end melodies that grow with repeat plays... Several are injected with the head-zones of the '60s (i.e. drug fueled) but those were the sixties and these cats were among the 'happening now sounds.' Remember, the great guitarist and band leader Eliott Ingber was kicked out of the MOTHERS OF INVENTION (playing on Freak Out) when Zappa (anti drugs guy) discovered Ingber was "using." That didn't sway Captain Beefheart who knew a good thing or two and added Ingber to his fantastic "MAGIC BAND" donning the Ingber monkior, "Winged Eel Fingerling" - indeed!
Fraternity Of Man is the band that forms the link between Frank Zappa & The Mothers, Lowell George & The Factory, Little Feat, and Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. In his short period of existence between these ancestors, relatives and descendants, the band managed to record two albums, "Fraternity Of Man" in 1968, and "Get It On" in 1969.
The short-lived Fraternity of Man is undoubtedly best known for the pro-pot anthem "Don't Bogart Me," which showed up during an unforgettable scene in the genre-defining biker film Easy Rider (1969). That song is hardly the highlight (many abound), and this hairy hippie crew looked the degenerate part they sounded, although, they could play, and how... The original quintet included an overhaul of the Lowell George-led Factory, featuring Martin Kibbee (bass), Warren Klein (guitar/sitar/tamboura) and Ritchie Heyward (drums/vocals). George split and became a very temporary Mothers of Invention member, while the other three joined up with Freak Out (1966) era Mother Elliot Ingber (guitar). The personnel was completed with the addition of Lawrence "Stash" Wagner (vocals/guitar) and the band recorded its 1968 self-titled release Fraternity of Man. Another Frank Zappa connection could be found in the guise of Tom Wilson, who produced the Mother's earliest studio efforts. As one might anticipate, there are several prominent musical dynamics carried over into the Fraternity of Man from its former incarnation. The stoner wake-n-bake fuzzed up anthem, "In the Morning," blows away similar hard psych rock entries that can be found...as well as "Blue Guitar" and "Plastic Rat" retain the psychedelic garage rock that pervaded much of the Factory's sound. The band's variation of Zappa's "Oh No" -- titled "Oh No I Don't Believe It" -- is a gassed-up rocker replete with Ingber's nimble lead fuzz fret work. Those decidedly more belligerent outings are contrasted by the intricate and psychedelic qualities of "Wispy Paisley Skies" and the aforementioned steel guitar-driven "Don't Bogart Me." However, the comfortable misfit rockers "Candy Striped Lion's Tail," "Field Day," or the slightly perverse R&B-flavored "Bikini Baby" are among the best sides on the album, which is very very good..
