• Raga NAT BHAIRAV: Nat Bhairav is a late night raga, resulting from the blending of two melody types: Nat and Bhairav. Nat is a deep and solemn night raga, expressing the vira rasa, the mood of heroism, attributed to God Indra, whereas Bhairav is usually performed in the early morning, and has a certain flavour of melancholy mingled with hope and expectancy. In the Hindu mythology, Bhairav represents the terrific and destructive aspect of Shiva. As a combination of the two, Nat Bhairav has a pathetic character corresponding to the karuna rasa, that Jamaluddin expresses here with depth and intensity.
  
• It's tone material is as follows:
  
• Ascending scale (Aroha): Sa Ga (Ri Ga)ma (Pa)dha Ni Sa.
  
• Descending scale (Avroha): Sa Ni dha Pa ma Ga ma Ri Sa.
• The first tetrachord (purvanga) is borrowed to raga Nat, and the second (utteranga) to Bhairav. The dominant and subdominant degrees (vadi and samvadi) are Ri(D) and komal dha (Ab).
• After a meditative step, Jamaluddin Bhartiya chose to play three movements in tintal, a rhythmic cycle of sixteen beats: masitkhani gat, rezakhani gat and jhala, in an increasing tempo expressing the natural process of cosmic acceleration.

• Raga SINDHU BHAIRAVI: In contrast with the deep Nat Bhairav, Sindhu Bhairavi is a romantic and popular raga; it depicts the shringara resa, the mood of love and surrender, in a joyful way, yet with a touch of nostalgia. It is always played in the Thuimri style, a "light-classical" highly ornamented form, probably connected with the dance in its origin. Although it is considered a morning raga, Sindhu Bhairavi can be performed at any time of the day, but it is traditionally the last piece of a recital.
• This raga offers a wide scope to portray any human feeling, therefore its performance rules are not very strict, and can vary from one artists to the other. Basically, all the notes of Bhairavi are flat (komal) except the tonic (Sa) and the fith (Pa), which are always fixed; but the natural second and seventh (suddh Ri and Ni) appear frequently as it is the cse here, and occasionally the natural sixth (suddh Kha) and the sharp fourth (tivra Ma). Its scale can be described as such:
• Ascending: Sa(Ri)ga ma Pa dha ni(Ni)Sa.
• Descending: Sa ni(Dha ni)dha Pa ma(Ma ma)ga Ri ga ri Sa.
• Jamaluddin Bharitya starts his interpretation with a short alap called sochar, followed by a long masitkhani gat, in which he develops all the subtleties of ornamentation required in this raga; his performance ends up with lilting gat and jhala, both in drut (fast) tintal.
