Description
Hi There,
You are looking at an original copy of Nurse With Wounds “Psilotripitaka†Box Set on vinyl on United Dairies (UD0134). I bought this record in the year of release (1990), and although obviously in used condition it hasn't faired too badly at all. The records in this set play at 33/45 rpm.
Psilotripitaka is a boxed set of the Nurse’s first 3 albums: “Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table With A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella†(Side 1: “Two Mock Projections†& “The Six Buttons Of Sex Appealâ€, Side 2: “Blank Capsules Of Embroidered Cellophaneâ€), “To The Quiet Men From A Tiny Girl†(Side 1: “Umbrella Link†& “She Alone Hole And Openâ€, Side 2: “Ostranenieâ€) and “Merzbild Schwet†(Side 1: “Dada Xâ€, Side 2: “Futurismoâ€. This particular box set was released as a limited run & although the Brainwashed site says was to 500, I’m sure was at least 5,000, maybe even 10,000. My box set is one of the first run of 1000 copies, which contained a bonus EP “The Ladies Home Tickler†(Side A: “Duelling Banjos†, Side B: “Registered Nurse Second Coming†(Both featuring Jim Thirlwell aka Clint Ruin aka Foetus Inc.). The set has all it’s original inserts, which are allegedly copies of the inserts from the original releases and include the (in)famous list of bands that have inspired the Wound.
For anyone who doesn’t own a copy of Psilotripitaka or NWW’s first 3 LPs anywhere in their collection, it really is a must that you get to hear it, in whatever format. The original LPs from 1979 &1980 are very hard to find, and I don’t want to tell you how much they go for! They are a stunning collection of NWW’s early releases, and all feature very long & quite often sparse tracks. Lots of soundscapes, but on occasions, especially on Chance Meeting… they are created with more guitar work than you’d ordinarily expect from Mr Stapleton et al if you’d come to the band later. Lots of classic NWW sounds are there, you can hear it’s NWW, but it’s more raw & embryonic than the Homotopy To Marie or Spiral Insana era. Lots of distantly spoken sections, eerie sensations and the odd tortured soul screaming out for forgiveness, it’s superb stuff & The Ladies Home Tickler is good fun as well. Try the link to the official site for a release description, although there’s not much there I’m afraid. http://www.brainwashed.com/nww/ (Go to music section & scroll down for Psilo…) There’s some more here: http://www.trouserpress.com/entry.php?a=nurse_with_wound

In terms of grading (SEE BELOW FOR GRADINGS) the records in this set are all in very good condition. There are surface crackles & some noise present, but nothing more than expected of a record this old. Most of the tracks are unaffected by noise, it’s mainly the lead-ins & outs where you’ll hear more, and there are some very quiet passages within the pieces of music where more obvious noise may be apparent. There doesn't appear to be any major clunks or scratches and I’ve listened to approx 75% of the records to grade them. They are 16 years old & they have been played & enjoyed, but cared for. It is unfortunately the box that lets it down. The individual covers are mostly in very nice condition, apart from small (1 inch) areas at the tops of the covers where there is some minor splitting to 3 out of the 4, and a small bump to the corner of “to the quiet men…†they are all looking fine. The outer box has been bashed. There is a 2 inch break in the edge on the box at the base, and the bottom right hand corner has taken a good bump (see picture). There are general scuff marks on the front and the back, which on their own would be ok, but all together the box cannot be described as more than good condition for it’s age. All inserts are untorn & uncreased. I feel based on some of the prices I’ve seen this set going for that this is a more than realistic and fair starting price for this set in this condition. Any questions please ask, Happy Bidding!
PS - I’m going to be selling pretty much my whole record collection over the next few months (I hope!) because I have no space at home for them now I have 2 beautiful daughters (Who I also have to buy things for!). I've got records by bands like NWW, Can, Gong, Beefheart, Zappa, Big Black/ Rapeman, Surfers, Neubauten, Swans, Spacemen 3, Orb etc. Keep checking my items for sale if you’re into this kind of stuff, if there’s anything you’re particularly after send me a message & I’ll let you know if I’ve got a copy, it’s condition & create an auction for it if you like.

POSTAGE
(Please Note – this is a 4 record set in a heavy cardboard box. It is not a light item (1250 gram!) and I have to add the packing & it’s weight to that. I have tried to keep postage to the minimum, but because of the weight of the item it does look a bit frightening! The box set will be wrapped in a thin packing layer, then bubble wrap, then in a specific box set/ multiple vinyl mailer which I’ve bought for this purpose alone)

Grading (Vinyl Only – I do the covers individually)
Bad – Terrible, overbearing surface noise and big clunks throughout, visual scratches & gouges, only for replacement covers or melting into weird ashtrays!
Fair – Not great, major surface noise & crackles & noticeable clunks & scratches that affect the music profoundly negatively.
Good – Used, played and loved, but still playable. Generally has surface noise & crackles throughout but nothing that dominates the music. There will be clunks & scratches, but these should not be continuous for more than 5 seconds/ revolutions & should all be highlighted where possible. May need cleaning.
Good Plus – As above but less noticeable crackle during tracks & smaller less pronounced scratches.
VGC – Used but looked after. There will probably be some minor surface noise & crackles, especially noticeable during lead ins & quieter tracks, but the music should at no point be overly compromised. Any clunks or scratches should be one-offs & be named & shamed. May also still need cleaning.
Excellent Condition – Probably didn’t play it! If I find any of these in my collection they will almost sound perfect. There will be no scratches, clunks and there should be no surface noise on any part of the track (However clicks on the lead in & out of tracks/ records will be allowed). Your enjoyment of this record should not in any way be compromised, however not many of my records are likely to be in this condition! May still benefit further from proper cleaning.
If you have any further questions about a specific record then please don’t hesitate to ask. I never just provide a visual grading, these records have been listened to in order to make as sure as possible of their condition. I try to listen to as much of the records I’m grading as I can but haven’t always got the time to listen to every minute of every album, but I do endeavour to provide honest gradings. If unsure please feel free to check with my previous buyers. Thank you for looking.
