Economy (Pama) ECO-6, 1969
I began collecting records, new and second-hand, in my teens, around 1969. I stopped in the mid-1980s, having accumulated 2500 or so singles and several hundred albums in various genres from rock’n’roll through sixties rock music to punk and New Wave, and including lots of soul and reggae. The collection was in storage for over ten years because we ran out of room for it but I have I just got recently it back. I have decided to go through it and to sell a small number of those records that I seem unlikely ever to play but which I think may have a value in the collectors’ market.
This is the first album I’ve sold as part of this process. I’ve chosen it because the ska and rock steady stuff seems very popular with buyers and I can’t remember the last time I played this record. The condition of this example is OK, although not brilliant – but this is a rare and sought-after LP, I undersand. The sleeve is in reasonable shape, if slightly battered and a little grubby to the reverse. The record itself has a lot of surface scratches but it is made of fairly heavy-duty vinyl so it actually plays pretty well. There is some inevitable fizzing and hissing but no major clonks or clicks.
The record is on the “Economy” label but this is clearly another name for Pama, perhaps invented for this series of LPs which were, I assume, issued at a budget price. Why it isn’t actually on Nu Beat, I don’t know. You can see that the track listing includes The Rudies, Max Romeo, Laurel Aitken, Alton Ellis and the Ethiopians plus less well-known performers like Winston Sinclair, Bobby Kalphat and Ronald Russel.

Postage and packing within the UK will be £2.00. Postage anywhere else in the world will be £4.00. There is no reserve beyond the minimum bid. I do not surchage either for eBay fees or PayPal fees. I will not close the auction early regardless of the value of the offer made, and will not reply to e-mails asking me to do that. Thanks for your interest in this auction and good luck if you decide to bid.
