"Things Falling Apart" is a remix album by Nine Inch Nails (NIN) that was released on November 21, 2000. The album features remixes of tracks from the 1999 album "The Fragile" as well as new material.
The remix album was created during a turbulent time for NIN. In 1999, the band's mastermind Trent Reznor had suffered from depression, drug addiction, and writer's block. During this time, he was also going through a divorce, which added to his personal struggles.
Reznor decided to bring in other artists to remix the tracks from "The Fragile" as a way of exploring new sounds and to help get his creative juices flowing again. He enlisted the help of various musicians, including Charlie Clouser, Keith Hillebrandt, and Danny Lohner, among others.
The resulting album, "Things Falling Apart," features a range of different remixes, from ambient and atmospheric to aggressive and hard-hitting. Some of the standout tracks include "Starfuckers, Inc. (Version 2)," "Where Is Everybody? (Version)," and "The Great Collapse."
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding its creation, "Things Falling Apart" received generally positive reviews from critics and fans alike. The album peaked at number 67 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2002.
