Stunning sounding copy of this rare 1966 UK original Philips Mono recording from Nina Simone.
Released in both the US and the UK on the Philips label 51 years ago, this studio album has been reissued and re-pressed several times, with modern copies coming out on the Verve label.
Original Stereo copies do crop up on here occasionally, (identifiable by the catalogue number prefix SBL) but the UK 1966 Mono (BL) copies are even more difficult to find.
This is one of those scarce mono copies.

Vinyl: VG+ Normally, I'd have no hesitation at all in grading it as excellent, even though it's obviously been handled and played. There are superficial surface marks to be seen and evidence of spindle-wear, but it still retains a remarkably nice lustre and sheen considering it's entered its 6th decade!!
It's only when you play it that you appreciate its condition. Reproduction is superb. Hardly any dust-crackle at all, even on the dead wax between tracks. There is however, a small flaw about half way through track two side two, which causes an audible click for around 9 revolutions. Otherwise, it sounds crystal clear. Labels are standard Philips black/silver house style & remain nice and clean.
Sleeve: VG+ The sleeve does show some signs of age and handling, but still in good shape for a 1966 copy. It's a laminated flip-back with an Egyptian priestess motif on the front cover. Rear of sleeve is plain white, un-laminated and carries track-listing details and extensive sleeve notes.
Structurally, there are some minor issues. The laminate is intact and has only one small air-blister bottom left by the spine. The sleeve itself has some edge & corner wear and minor creasing, mainly at the spine edge. The flip-backs are all securely stuck down, but there is some minor damage to flip-back at top right (see photo). There is also a penned name inside the sleeve opening.
Maybe being hyper-critical, especially when the vinyl sounds this good. One of those rare occasions where it sounds better than it looks!
Fantastic specimen of a genuine rarity and collectors item. Not a mint copy by any stretch, but sounds just how vintage vinyl ought to.
