Description
With guitarist/keyboardist Roland Wolf and Cramps/Gun Club veteran Kid Congo Powers on guitar added to the ranks, along with guest appearances from old member Hugo Race, the Seeds reached 1988 with their strongest album yet, the insanely powerful, gripping Tender Prey. Rather than simply redoing what they'd already done, Nick Cave and company took their striking musical fusions to deeper and higher levels all around, with fantastic consequences. The album boldly starts out with an undisputed Cave masterpiece — "The Mercy Seat," a chilling self-portrait of a prisoner about to be executed that compares the electric chair with the throne of God. Queasy strings from a Gini Ball-led trio and Mick Harvey's spectral piano snake through a rising roar of electric sound — a common musical approach from many earlier Seeds songs, but never so gut-wrenching as here. Cave's own performance is the perfect icing on the cake, commanding and powerful, excellently capturing the blend of crazed fear and righteousness in the lyrics. Matching that high point turns out to be impossible for anything else on Tender Prey, but more than enough highlights take a bow that demonstrates the album's general quality. "Deanna" is another great blast from the Seeds, a garage rock-style rave-up that lyrically is everything Natural Born Killers tried to be, but failed at — killing sprees, Cadillacs, and carrying out the work of the Lord, however atypically. The echoing, gentle-yet-rough sonics on the Blind Willie Johnson-inspired "City of Refuge" and the gentler drama of "Sugar Sugar Sugar" also do well in keeping the energy level up. On the quieter side, Cave indulges his penchant for gloomy piano-led ballads throughout, and quite well at that, with such songs as "Watching Alice," "Mercy," and the end-of-the-evening singalong "New Morning." "Sunday's Slave" has a beautifully brooding feeling to it thanks to the combination of acoustic guitar and piano, making it a bit of a cousin of Scott Walker's "Seventh Seal." (Allmusic.com)

HOW I GRADE MY RECORDS
Since grading is a very personal thing, please ask before you bid to make sure about anything you like to know, by writing me.
Mint (M):A record in mint condition should be in perfect, brand new condition. There should be no evidence of wear and tear, and the vinyl should show no signs of having being repeatedly played.
Near Mint (NM):As the name implies, a near mint record should be almost perfect. The vinyl should show no more than the most minor of defects and the sleeve should be practically flawless. Typically, a record in Near Mint condition would be Mint but for possibly one small defect, maybe a minor surface abrasion on the vinyl or a tiny crease on the sleeve.
Excellent (EX):A record in Excellent condition will show signs of use in that there will be some light scratches or surface abrasions on the vinyl, but this will not affect the sound quality in any way. The sleeve may have some tiny amounts of scuffing or have some small creasing in the corner tips.
Very Good (VG): A record in Very Good condition will have numerous light scratches or scuffs on the vinyl, but it should still play without noticeable deterioration of the sound quality. The sleeve may have a small split, or have noticeable scuffing and creasing along the edges. The label may be slightly discoloured and some ring wear may be visible.
Good (G):An record in Good condition can be played without hopping or skipping, but there may be some hissing or extra surface noise. The sleeve will have some seem splits, scuffing, creasing, and may also be discoloured. Ring wear may well be visible and inner sleeves may show signs of wear and tear.
Fair (F):A record in Fair condition can still probably be played, but the sound quality will not be good, possessing surface noise and bad scratches. The outer and inner sleeve will be badly worn, creased or torn.
Poor (P):A record in poor condition may be unplayable in that the vinyl may be cracked, warped, or have several deep scratches. The sleeve may be torn, split, badly creased or have been defaced or written on. The inner sleeves may be unoriginal or missing.

SS = Still Sealed. Disco ancora sigillato.
M = Mint. Perfetto sotto ogni punto di vista. Vinile senza difetti, cover pure.
NM = Near Mint.
VG = Very Good.
G = Good. Percettibili cracks e pops all'ascolto, usura marcata della cover.
