THE VERY FIRST UK TAMLA MOTOWN RELEASE OF ALL TIME
MARV JOHNSON - COME TO ME

This unbelievably scarce record never comes up for sale. Motown began in
1958 with Berry Gordy selling records out of the back of his car. And THIS
was the song. Released on the Tamla label, 101, Berry and Marv himself used
to go round trying to sell the records themselves in Detroit to try to raise
the money to press some more. In the end, unable to afford it, they sold it
and all the next batch of Marv Johnson masters, to United Artists.

The first four official UK Motown releases were on the London label. But
before those was this legendary gem, which actually got its UK release via
London Records' deal with United Artists, but which was unquestionably the
first ever Tamla release.
As rare as it is on the US Tamla label, just imagine how much rarer the UK
copy is on London. The next record "You Got What It Takes" became a hit, but
this first release has been consigned to forty five years of rarity.

This disc has resided in legendary Motown collector / Northern Soul DJ Ian
Levine's collection for the last thirty five years, since his schooldays,
when he made it his goal to collect every Motown release ever put out in the
UK.

The record is in lovely condition, the only detriment being a missing centre
which was replaced with an old fashioned 1960s "spider".

This is probably the first time in history that this amazing gem has ever
turned up on e-bay.
