Nirvana : Dedicated To Markos III A1/B1 1st Press

I do not like to use the term 'rare' because invariably it is not the case but in this instance it certainly does apply.  This is their third album and it is said that only 250 copies of the first pressing were produced hence the rarity value.  Chris Blackwell, who produced their first two albums, rejected this one as it did not think the tracks were good enough.  I disagree with that 100%!  There are a number of great numbers here and they all play with STUNNING quality I am delighted to say.  As detailed below the clarity and depth of the audio is unbelievably and there are only two light clicks across the entire album.  There is no background static and the sonic quality is quite simply out of this world!  The vinyl is visually in great condition and has hardly been played in my opinion based on the audio and that I cannot find any spindle wear!

The G& L cover is in lovely condition with very little shelf wear and the original inner has also been very well preserved  A superb album in every way!

Visual grading

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no scratches.  S1 has one very faint surface scuff and a couple of light 'specks' but they have no affect on the superb audio.  S2 has a couple of small hairline marks that are a little more obvious but again these have no impact on the audio.  There are no other obvious hairlines and when you consider the rarity of the album it really is visually very impressive.  The Pye labels are pristine with no marking/writing and I cannot even see any spindle wear!

Play grading

As you set the needle down the run in on S1 is so quiet so your expectations are high!  The intro on 'The World Is Cold Without You' does not disappoint - it has no 'background' and the first vocal just has one very light click.  From then on it plays with wonderful depth and precision and no interference.  The fade out has just one light tick and overall this is a Near Mint start to the album.

There is complete silence in the dead wax and then 'Excerpt From ''The Blind And The Beautiful'' plays with stunning clarity from the first note to the last with no intrusion.  The ensemble play with sublime audio and the vocals are also very 'clean' and the fade out has no 'background' at all.  A superb Mint- track.

The intro on 'I Talk To My Room' again plays with a clarity that is second to none and the first verse and vocal are just as good.  It continues in the same way and already I am so impressed by the sheer clarity of sound on this rare album.  A relatively quiet track and yet there is no intrusion on the audio and it basically plays like it has never been played before.  A stunning Mint version.

'Christopher Lucifer' plays to the same 'high end' standard with, you guessed it, no interference.  The original sonic quality is still there and this vinyl clearly has not been played very much at all, there is no 'muddiness' to the sound.  Mint

The opening vocal on 'Aline Cherie' is close to perfect with only 2/3 barely audible dust ticks and continues to play with great clarity and depth.  There is one light tick in the mid instrumental section but that is the only interference if you can call it that.  The final quiet piano section plays beautifully with no static etc.  I am tempted to grade this as Mint- but I will say Near Mint just to be on the safe side.  A stunning side of music for sure with incredible clarity and definition.

The acoustic intro on 'Tres, Tres Bien' plays without fault and the opening vocal is practically as good with just one very light tick.  It then plays so clearly and this really is a stunning rendition of this fine track.  Another quiet one and yet no background static and of course no clicks or pops and another perfect fade out.  It has to grade as Mint-

'It Happened Two Sundays Ago' has just one very light tick on the intro and then plays with great precision and no interference.  Another Mint- track.  It is remarkable how 'cleanly' this record is playing.

The intro on 'Black Flower' is 'as new' and the opening vocal section is just as strong.  The first 'high octane' chorus plays to perfection with no distortion and it continues to play with a clarity that defies the age of the album.  Every section plays with exceptional quality and the guitar solo is a prime example of that.  This is Mint in every sense of the word.  What a version!

The gentle intro on 'Love Suite' plays with stunning clarity but does have one click for which I can see no reason on the vinyl, there are no marks, so is perhaps a pressing fault.  Aside from that there is literally no other 'background' and from that point on the playback is unbelievable!  I cannot emphasise enough how 'clean' the audio even during the very quiet sections.  You cannot even hear the stylus running over the grooves!  Each note is so sharp and precise and it has that CD like aesthetic quality but without the warmth and depth that only vinyl can bring.  I will grade the intro as Near Mint- because of the one solitary click but the rest is undeniably Mint you cannot fault it

'Illinois' ends the album with, as you would expect, superb audio from the get go.  From start to finish the audio plays to such a high standard and there is no distortion on the top end.  Another mesmeric version with no interference!  A Mint finish to an outstanding album.

In summary this very rare first pressing plays to a standard that is practically 'as new' from start to finish.  I do not use the term 'as new' lightly either - it is based on a complete audio grading where any 'background' is noted.  The clarity, depth and warmth is just so impressive and for there to be no underlying static is a genuine rarity.  Yes there are a couple of clicks but that is the only intrusion on an otherwise stunning album.  As stated it is said that only 250 of these were pressed so there cannot be many around today as good as this!  Any audiophile will be blown away by the sonic quality on offer here!

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear.  The edges are incredibly clean with no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is near perfect with only a tiny bit of wear on the top corner.  The other corners are in great shape with hardly any wear and the opening edge is near perfect with hardly any handling wear.  The front cover has no laminate damage just one very small crease near the right edge and a handful of the usual small creases next to the spine plus one mega small crease bottom right.  The non-laminated back cover is in lovely condition with only minimal marking on the flipback edges.  The flipbacks themselves are in superb condition and remain firmly attached to the cover.  As per the record there cannot be many original covers that are impressive as this one!

The original poly-lined inner is in great shape with no side splits, tears or marking and only minimal creasing.
