Nobody Knows You was a big hit for Bessie Smith in 1929; Nina charted with it 31 years later.  It only reached #93 in 1960, but the fact that she charted a blues song at all is a remarkable testament to her incomparable voice.

Nina Simone (1933-2003) is the rare artist whose work is cherished by soul and jazz aficionados alike; her recordings spanned the worlds of classical, blues, folk, R&B, pop, and gospel as well.  She was a leading light of the 1960s civil rights movement, and her career suffered as a result.  She ultimately moved to Europe to escape American discrimination.
