This is a late 1970's pressing of the classic NICK DRAKE album. A rare UK press, with great vinyl, TOP AUDIO and great cover. Owned by me since new, and kept stored upright and wrapped in a specialist record box.

Please Note: This vinyl is UNPLAYED but I have carefully tested it to ensure the sound quality, as new vinyls can still have audio flaws or poor audio quality.

I should also state that unplayed does not necessarily mean perfect audio. I have collected numerous new unplayed vinyls over the years and they can play with poor sound, static and pops, so this is a true rarity.

Bryter Layter, recorded in 1970, was the second of three albums by British folk musician Nick Drake. Like Five Leaves Left, the album contains no unaccompanied songs: Drake was accompanied by part of the British folk rock group Fairport Convention and John Cale from The Velvet Underground, as well as Beach Boys musicians Mike Kowalski and Ed Carter.

In 2000, Q placed Bryter Layter at number 23 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.  Included in Q's "5 Best Re-Issues of 2000".

In 2003, the album was ranked number 242 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and is considered a land mark record of the period.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! -  superb sound quality throughout!

Bryter Layter is a highly complex, delicate collection of music, and is also a very sensitive piece of vinyl, and extremely hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Hazey Jane.' Listening to this UNPLAYED pressing was an absolute joy. Superb by any vinyl standards.

I'm delighted to say that this original pressing has genuinely crystal clear audio. Super clear sound and minimal background static that can be found on any vinyl. There is certainly no dominant  interference, and no loud pops or clicks or distortion. It really sounds amazing and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes.  Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, and obviously NO sticks or jumps what so ever. I will give a detailed account below:

Bryter Layter

opens with the orchestral and quiet 'Introduction'. Here the opening bars are just crystal clear. Building up with 'Hazey Jane II  ' this great track starts the record with great audio, just great bright sound. I noticed one light dust pop between the 1st and 2nd track, and then one more during the intro to Hazey Jane II, but I have to stress that these are very low level. '

'At The Chime Of A City Clock  ', such a hard track for

Bryter Layter

, nearly always prone to heavy wear, here sounds great. No pops or clicks during the music. Just one or two occasional ultra light static tics only. 'One Of These Things First' also sounds great, with just perfect audio. A silent intro, it plays with great sound, with barely any background static, and this is another quiet track always prone to heavy static and loud pops and clicks. Truly incredible sound. Another delicate Nick Drake classic, 'Hazey Jane I ', rounds off side 1. with great audio. A bit of ultra faint background static only, no pops or clicks and great clear sound. There is some light occasional static but for such quiet paired down music it is minimal. Superb sound from this original pressing.

Side 2. of Bryter Layter

virtually always starts of with heavy static. There are a couple of minutes of very quiet music, and there is nearly always a lot of surface noise. Here there is some light background static but it is very light. The track '

Bryter Layter

' plays without a single pop or click throughout. Here the sound is so deep and powerful, and very sharp vinyl sound! The long quiet 'Fly' plays perfectly, it really sounds fantastic, with no pops tics and absolutely minimal static. In the long quiet intro to 'Poor Boy', one of the quietest parts on the record, it plays with no distortion, NO hiss, unbelievable clear audio, even during the quietest sections. I heard a couple of light dust pops, but I'll repeat, there are no loud pops, no loud tics and not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great record.

The long jazz piano solo plays just superbly. 'Northern Sky' has great clear sound and there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on any tracks of these vinyls. Side 2. ends with a superbly clear 'Sunday'. Amazing. The long intro of this quiet track is virtually always plague by unwanted noise. Here it sounds superb, with no loud pops or clicks, a bit of very light static only,  this pressing really sounds great, and I know it would be very difficult to find an original vinyl that sounds as clean as this.

This is a truly outstanding piece. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars and orchestration come through crisp and clear. There are no dips in the sound quality and that is a massive surprise for Bryter Layter

.

This is a truly great listen. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

A great all round example of this classic vinyl. For such a quiet album its hard to ever find a piece you can grade at MINT, even if its never been played. This is a great Audio pleasure and I would have to give the Audio an EXCELLENT PLUS to NEAR MINT grading. And I should state that no vinyl will ever play with total silence, only cds do that and they have a completely different sound to vinyl. On saying that I never thought I'd hear a vinyl pressing of Bryter Layter

that sounded like this!

Great first (stereo) mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. A great all round example of this great vinyl.

THE RECORD

What are the chances of being able to purchase a pressing of this great album that is unplayed. The spindle hole is so tight the record hardly fits over the spindle.

This is a superb piece of glossy vinyl. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original pressings, the record has great shine, with NO scratches and NO hairlines. Inspected under a spot light, there are barely any paper removal marks, a couple of ultra light whispy lines only. This is a stunning example, truly archive quality, and the ultimate upgrade.  Easily grades  at

NEAR MINT.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE LABELS

Flawless labels, NO spindle traces at all. Guaranteed! NO wear around the spindle hole! Amazing examples of this rare classic press.

Absolutely beautiful, you wont find better! Unmarked as you would expect from an unplayed vinyl. Grades  at MINT.

THE COVER

The cover is made from a single sheet of wrap-around cardboard with the seam across the inner top and bottom edge of the cover. Unlike the very 1st press covers, this pressing comes with  a smooth eggshell finish. A near perfect cover with the only the very slightest of handling wear.

A great example, with NO ring wear, minimal corner wear and absolutely minimal handling marks. Easily grades at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS.

THE INNER

Original inner sleeve with large thumb notch across the top and internal flip backs.

NEAR MINT condition, NO tears, NO wear at the tops. Some minor age yellowing. Crisp and Clean.

RARITY

Original pressings of Bryter Layter in reasonable condition are scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. And its an album that is incredibly prone to loss of sound. Any examples with a record in great condition is a rarity, and getting rarer by the day. Finding a complete press in UNPLAYED condition makes this a Unique piece, an Ultimate rarity and a very rare opportunity for a serious vinyl collector.

A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY

GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.

GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:

This record has been play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are buying. I will not go into screeds of information about the nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

VINYL

Large format art work covers with the original sound and mix unique to vinyl and of the highest quality audio. Vinyl record have always been loved and have become a great investment opportunity, with prices soaring over the last ten years, making classic pieces a great financial as well as a cultural investment.
