If this compilation of 11 rockabilly tunes from 1956-1960 sounds unusually contemporary -- true stereo, booming bass, etc. -- it's because reissue producers Tony Brown and David Briggs have overdubbed new tracks on the old tapes. The first Elvis Presley album to credit a computer technician, I Was the One is the aural equivalent of a colorized movie -- purists may be put off, but it has a brilliance that is better in some ways from the original mono recordings.
