RECORD HISTORY: THE NEW BREED followed up their 1965 Garage Punker "Green-Eyed Woman" with this excellent BEATLES influenced GARAGE PUNK ROCK record! It hit the Top 20 in Northern California Radio Station charts and was later picked up by the short-lived Hanna Barbera Record of Hollywood. This single features future EAGLES member Tim Schmit singing the lead. "WANT AD" sounds a lot like THE BEATLES "PAPERBACK WRITER" but with a cool Punk edge and a great FUZZ LEAD! The flip "GOOD GUYS" is a wild GARAGE PUNK INSTRUMENTAL with a smoking lead guitar workout throughout! Both sides of this single can be heard on the Frantic Records CD "The NEW BREED Wants You". This 45 single was AUTOGRAPHED by Band Members TIM SCHMIT [TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT of THE EAGLES], RON FLOEGEL and TOM PHILLIPS!
BAND HISTORY: THE NEW BREED is most famous for TIM SCHMIT who, as TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT, went on to become a member of THE EAGLES [and POCO]. This band has a long history and a pretty steady line-up of SCHMIT, TOM PHILLIPS, RON FLOEGEL and GEORGE HULLIN. They were Folk singers TIM, TOM and RON in 1962, adding drummer Hullin and becoming Surf band THE CONTENDERS in 1963. Garage Punk Rockers THE NEW BREED started in 1965, becoming THE BREED in 1968, GLAD in 1969 and, finally, REDWING in 1970. TIM SCHMIT stretched out his name when he joined POCO in 1969. A few years later he replaced RANDY MEISNER in THE EAGLES! TIM returned to record the first REDWING LP in 1971.
