NEIL YOUNG
On TheBeach.
TRACK LIST:
Side 1: Walk On; See the Sky About to Rain;Revolution Blues; For the Turnstiles; Vampire Blues.
Side 2: On the Beach; Motion Pictures;Ambulance Blues.
LabelConditions: Mint examples with no spindle marks.
Cat Number:K 54014.
Mode /Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.
Country ofManufacture: France
Rarity:Scarce, some say rare but I disagree with this, it does show up occasionallybut it’s the condition that often lets it down. I have seldom heard a ‘perfect’copy of this classic Young album but this is must be the ultimate copy I haveever seen or heard. The cover is in beautiful condition with hardly any wearand this is not an easy one. Most suffer ringwear and rubbing and most of allgrubbiness and sticker tears. The inner is almost as made with no cellotape onthe edges – owners so often reinforced this delicate inner to avoid edge splits– this has none and no edge damage at all. And the record plays to nearperfection throughout. This monumental Young album that was for so longout-of-print will rarely be heard better via its original vinyl format.
OriginalYear of Release: 1974
Matrix Nos:54014 A1 / 54014 B1 (French 1st pressing).
Musiciansinclude: Neil Young – guitar, vocal, harmonica, wurlitzer piano; Ben Keith –Steel guitar, slide guitar, vocal, hand drum, bass guitar; Billy Talbot – bass;Ralph Molina – drums, vocal.
The hardoriginal inner is also included and has a small (2cm) split on bottom edge, otherwise it could pass for new. Overall this is a super copy of thismost famous work and many collectors should treasure it.
Cover Gradeand Format: A highly attractive EX+ and arguably better still for a veryintolerant sleeve. A single format, and unlaminated and including the ‘wallpaper’inside. Printed in France. A notoriously difficult cover to find in topcondition, this one remains very attractive.
Cover Front:Great artwork and looking superb, this is a really difficult one. Rich colouris retained with no grubbiness and blemishes are few. A slight trace of rubbingon the opening edge. No creasing or indentations, this really can be held andenjoyed and overall, this famous front retains an unusual freshness.
Cover Back:A lovely back with little to fault: a couple of tiny surface chips near the topedge (but look hard) and a faint inner flipback rub near the top. That apart, little else to fault with no ringwear or noteworthy creasing or grubbiness.
Cover,Inside: I rarely have to mention the inside of the cover, that is where therecord is stored but on this one it’s vitally important. This famous cover isfully printed on the inside with what looks like a flowered wallpaper. All thisappears to be perfect with no rubbing which can and does happen via the inner.
With so littlewear and no damage, this should delight most Neil Young fans and discerningcollectors.
The Inner:Pristine Mint and it looks just made. No splits, tears, creases or marks, ultraclean and totally unworn. NO tape or signatures - a very pleasant change. Linernotes signed off by “Rusty Kershaw”
Vinyl Condition/VisualGrading: A few very fine hairline marks but not audible. Inexplicably it looks as though someone has run a damp cloth over bothsides leaving some water residue – however a professional clean would bring theshine back out and raise the grade to Ex+.
Album PlayedFor Grading: Yes. I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, alsothe record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise.
SoundQuality and Audio Grading: This ‘classic’ status record plays up to its highvisual grading with nothing to really fault. Strong, distortion-free sound. Any surface sounds are minimal, tiny andfaint and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional cleanpressing for a very challenging title. It does have some very gentle momentsbut even these (for a change) play extremely well and most of all unblemished. Fewcopies will match let alone outperform this early pressing significantly I feelsure.
