This is a record you should not miss!
It's a remarkable collection of early Delta blues and African-American musical tradition; creativity in the face of cruelty and exploitation clearly described by Lomax in his liner notes.
The notes by Lomax, the original field collector, place the songs and music in their cultural context. A native white southerner himself, he writes with only a touch of the cultural condescension, often unconscious, in the writings of white "experts" on African-American music of the time (1947 for the collecting & 1958 of the record release). These field recordings were made for the United States Library of Congress under the sponsorship of the Federal Writer's Project. Lomax and his father, John A. Lomax, served as Heads of the Folksong Division of the Library of Congress for many years.
The record has no audible flaws or spindle wear. The cover, rendered by artist Ralph Boguslav, is a bit scuffed from shelf storage.
This record is in M- condition. The cover is VG+.
