VINYL CONDITION: with so many records listed (and more on the way) it's physically impossible for me to play every groove from start to finish. So, in evaluating the condition of any record, I adopt the following format; I "dip” the 12"/album (by which I mean I listen to the run-in) which invariably gives a good indication of whether the overall platter is in decent condition. I then "dip" the vinyl throughout both sides for a brief listen hoping (not!) to identify any scratches and suchlike and then play, in its entirety, at least one track - the single or prime cut if readily identifiable. Combined with looking at the vinyl, including whether there is any mark from where the record has been put on a spindle, I believe gives a pretty good indication as to its overall condition. Invariably, most vinyl will have the odd minor crackle between tracks which I ask you to take as read - we're talking lovely warm vinyl here not clinical CDs! So I do my best to offer an honest appraisal which seems to have worked so far as I've not had any complaints.
COVER CONDITION: much easier to quickly evaluate, this will be an accurate reflection of the album's cover.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no or very few surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT: The record may show some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality throughout. The cover and packaging may have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality with perhaps just the odd minor crackle or similar, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, would be expected.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated a bit, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc. I don't normally sell such items unless they could be considered "completest" releases due to their rarity.
