Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only one or two very light and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. This vintage record has hardly been played.

Rarity: Scarce: the most elusive UK pressed Nancy album, this failed to even chart. Even harder to find in stereo, this being the era of the mono record. So-much-so, Reprise, formed by her father Frank, did not even make a dedicated stereo cover, instead a stereo sticker was put on the back to cover the RLP catalogue number.

Brief Info: The third Nancy Sinatra album and incredibly, it failed to chart. Within popular music, one of the most iconic female faces of the 1960s and this famous cover encaptures her perfectly for the time, posing on a London bus. Produced by Lee Hazlewood who she worked with for many famous songs of this period, he wrote four of the tracks on this set. One of her most famous and sort-after albums and in superb condition, the stereo version much harder to find too. Both record and cover are in lovely condition and sound quality is marvellous. I have been a big fan of Nancy since childhood, my father played her music regularly and I own all her original 60s albums, this copy being of equal quality to my own. A wonderful copy for 60s collectors and Nancy fans everywhere.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a single format with front lamination, this wraps around the closed edges on to three rear external flipbacks. Printed and made in England with no printer’s credits. A dedicated mono cover with the RSLP sticker on the back to indicate a stereo record inside.

Lamination & Front: The 1960s perfectly encaptured by an American in London. A superbly iconic front sleeve that time has largely overlooked. How this one failed to chart after two previously successful albums I am not sure. This front looks lovely with clear, shiny and fresh laminate. Three small and largely inconspicuous half moons and just a couple of fine edge hairline creases. No lifting with minimal traces of any dulling or friction rubs. Sometimes a stereo sticker was applied to the front as well: under light only can a faint outline of such a sticker can be seen but remains invisible with normal viewing. This has NOT pulled or blistered the laminate at all and any hint of any sticker evidence is almost minuscule. This timepiece front retains lovely rich and vibrant colour and simply looks fabulous.

Cover Back: The back has aged little overall, very mildly darkened with age but not rubbing or creasing. Any grubbiness or hint of rim impression light and very faint. The RSLP sticker present and never removed. All three flipbacks are neat and solid with clean ends and any burr traces tiny and faint.

Top Edge: No real wear, smoothly laminated and quite straight too.

Bottom Edge: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Viewed end-on, a little mild thickening and a few small burr traces. Overall, clean, fairly sharp with little wear and no feathering or trimming. The front exposed strip where the laminate ends short is unchipped, clean and unfaded. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite straight with minimal compression. All text perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate. Slightly darkened being critical with the ends a little toned.

Corners: Minimal traces of any rubbing but a little toned on and near the tips. Excellent shape is retained.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this classic 60’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: a plain white polylined inner that has little real wear but has some creasing and ripples. The two window circles are very neat indeed with no tears and all edges unsplit with no repairs. This is UK patented with ‘Foreign Patents Pending’ text.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+): and arguably better still. A super visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very heavily pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface trace marks being ultra fine and few – barely anything at all in fact on side two. A 46-year-old record totally devoid of penetrating scratches and offering wonderful virtually blemish-free sound. Visually a super copy that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This classic 1960s pop record plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or noteworthy clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this very early issue significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly indeed and has been generally well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful and clearly under-appreciated record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
