ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and quite rare 2LP box set – a superb collector's copy – from La Voix de Son Maitre / EMI (CVB 2281-2, French EMI pressing, red/white large-dog semi-circle label – ED1, stereo, 16-page booklet included) entitled "Les Derniers Enregistrements de Charles Munch" features a handsome hommage to "Le Beau Charles" and orchestra, a wonderful partnership that bore rich fruits during the remarkable Indian Summer of Charles Munch's life.
L'Orchestre de Paris clearly felt a deep love and rapport for their veteran maestro and each and every performance bears this out, with the players on resplendent, inspired form. The recordings, which were produced by René Callan and engineered by Paul Vavasseur, were all made in Paris in the spacious acoustics of the Salle Wagram during the years 1967 to 1969, and are warm, rich, and spacious.
An added bonus is the beautiful full-size, heavy-paper 16-page booklet with numerous striking archival photos of Munch, portraits of the various composers represented in this set, a moving appreciation of Munch's art, written by Pierre Hiégel, and extensive notes on the music – all texts are in French only.

This is core Munch repertoire and in many instances he surpasses what he achieved in Boston, deeply impressive as those RCA performances remain.
Truly a magnificent set, and any admirer of Charles Munch will find it a lovely addition to their collection. There has never been a finer tribute set on LP to Munch's artistry than this
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the box is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of, and the box appears virtually as new. There is a former owner's library label to left interior panel, but that is all. There are no corner breaks, seamsplits, or owners' markings. Overall, a truly superb collector's copy.
The condition of the full-size, 16-page, heavy-paper booklet is near-MINT. Again, there are no flaws to speak of. The pages remain crisp and bright, free of bends or owners' markings, and binding perfect.
The condition of the 2 LPs is near-MINT throughout. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really these are very fine copies and playback is truly superb across all 4 sides. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this set. Overall, these rate as truly fine collector's copies.
