Description

Muddy Waters Library of Congress 78 set Blues RARE!

Description :
This is the very rare and complete Library of Congress set of 78rpm records titled FOLK MUSIC OF THE UNITED STATES ALBUM IV  Afro-American Blues and Game Songs.  From the Archive of American Folk Song Edited by Alan Lomax.  Dated 1942.

One of the 5 records lists Mckinley Morganfield as the artist (Muddy in Mississippi  before he went to Chicago.).

This is the complete set of five records with album and liner pamphlet.

The album is in acceptable used condition showing some binding tape on edg (does not cover up title).  Also has some shelf wear and staining, but considering the rarity of this set, still one to have.  This appears to have been a library piece and on the inside cover the circulation sticker has been removed with residue.  Also the record labels had thin inventory labels removed with a white residue strip, but they do not cover up the text on the labels.  The liner pamphlet has had a cover added and is taped to the inside of the front cover, but the pages are very readable. The library name has been blacked out.   A few of the labels have some very light pencil markings and inventory markings.

These are 78 rpm black vinyl.  Three are 10" and two are 12".  The folders are good.

The vinyl is mostly VG+ with some areas VG with some normal light scuffs and marks.  But these are not beat up, showing some light use.  The vinyl is shiny and crisp.  I spot listened to these and found them to sound with good fidelity...normal surface noise.  I looked carefully and did not see any defects which would cause a skip or stop.  They are not mint, but really pretty nice.  No scratches that would cause a problem.  Muddy's record has a needle drop, but I played through it and there is just a very quick sound at the spot, but it plays through nicely and does not really detract considering normal noise on a recording like this.  The rest of his vinyl is very nice VG+.

This album includes records 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 from the Library of Congress Album IV.  There is a great deal of info on this set on the internet so if you would like to research the artists and tunes you may google for way more info than I can list in this auction.

This is a rare chance to own a piece of recording and blues history.  Please note that these are 50 years old...the grading is based on visual, some playing, and the fact that these are so old.  They are not pristine or perfect, but you will enjoy owning them.  If you don't like them you may return them in original condition for refund.
