Item : 12” Album – gatefold sleeve

Artist : Muddy Waters

Title : Electric Mud

Year : 1968

Issue : Italy pressing – Cadet Concept Records # D. 30-180

********************************* An absolute glorious original Italian copy of Muddy Waters ‘electric funk’ experiment from 1968 which proves beyond any doubt that he knows how to play.

Well known as his "controversial" album it’s blues-rock with a difference and was both pretty ambitious and vicious for the time. Think heavy fuzzed rock fused with hard-line funk blues and you’re getting close …. One heck of a ‘jam’ resulting in a psyched-out, tripped-out one-off that some people hate while others rave over it.

The backing band (Rotary Connection) rock out pretty good here with Pete Cosey's distorted electric guitar pyro-techniques and Morris Jenning's shake-your-rump-to-the-funk beats proving a blast on say,"Mannish Boy", which is fueled by a tremendous vocal from Muddy alongside some greasy bass and funky drumming that sound very similar to some of the beats used by rap acts of the late 90’s … actually there are a whole stack of rip-roaring great tracks here on this album which leans more to hard, acid-laden psychedelic rock than the blues …. Yummy stuff I say.

Vinyl : mmmm ….. MINT or MINT MINUS …. That is the question here. For my money it has never seen a turntable at all. An absolute glorious piece in every respect. Full lustre, no spindle traces whatsoever and appears never played ….. but I can’t be 100% certain of that so let’s settle on “ the closest to Mint you are ever going to see ” which I feel is as honest an appraisal I can give for this outstanding piece.
Labels : Clean.
Sleeve : the laminated picture sleeve is perfect. No ring-wear, writing, no creasing, no edge-wear or splits and the flat-edge spine is perfect…. magnificent !
