Description
I think one great line of vinyl collecting is when initial issues of LP covers are changed due to complaints from record company executives, from censors, from the buying public or simply due to errors in judgment.
Remember the Beatles “Butcher Cover” and the Mamas & the Papas “Toilet Cover”? Or how about the Dave Clark Five “No-Instruments Cover” or Blind Faith’s “Topless Girl Cover”? And don’t forget Three Dog Night’s “Nude Cover” and Roxy Music’s “Underwear Ladies Cover”. Replacement covers were issued for all of these original covers.
There are 2 LPs in this auction:
LP #1:
-
“MOM’S APPLE PIE” Self-titled Debut LP by Mom’s Apple Pie
-
Mom's Apple Pie was a 10-member Ohio-based rock band that gained success by touring with The Doobie Brothers and David Bowie.
-
This is Brown Bag Records BB 14200.
-
This LP was released in 1972.
-
This is the ORIGINAL FIRST COVER of this LP.
-
The "Pie" artwork by Nick Caruso forced discontinuation of this cover. The cover was considered objectionable or in “bad taste”, so the cover was re-released with revised artwork.
-
This FIRST COVER is in VG+ CONDITION STILL SEALED in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. It is not in Mint Condition, because of a clipped corner at top left (designating this LP as a ”cut-out”). There is also a small split in the shrink wrap on the bottom right corner that exposed that corner and some light to moderate wear. There is a small corner push and crease on that corner as well.
-
The VINYL is, of course, SEALED INSIDE in MINT CONDITION.
But in this auction, in addition to the original first cover, the high bidder also receives the replacement cover!
LP #2:
-
“MOM’S APPLE PIE” Self-titled Debut LP by Mom’s Apple Pie
-
This Brown Bag Records BB 14200.
-
This LP was released in 1972.
-
This is the REPLACEMENT (SECOND VERSION) COVER of this LP with the "Pie" artwork by Nick Caruso revised on this cover. In addition, tears on the woman’s cheeks and police peeking in the windows were added no doubt as further artistic “comments” on the censorship of the first cover.
-
The COVER is in VG CONDITION with light to moderate overall wear. There is some light edge and corner wear. a clipped bottom right corner (designating this LP as a ”cut-out”). There is a small square of sticker sticker stain/residue to the right of the word “PIE” on the front cover.
-
The VINYL for this cover is in NEAR MINT CONDITION.
-
The vinyl comes in its original Brown Bag Records inner paper sleeve designed to look like, what else but, a brown paper bag. It has a clipped corner like the cover.
THIS IS A GREAT “BEFORE & AFTER SET” of Mom’s Apple Pie’s Debut LP! So, win this auction and you win 2 Mom’s Apple Pie LPs and their covers! These 2 LPs go hand-in-hand and would look great framed in someone’s “vinyl room”.
FYI: I use Goldmine Grading Standards (P for Poor, F for Fair, G for Good, VG for Very Good, VG+ for Very Good Plus, NM for Near Mint, M for Mint) to VISUALLY GRADE these LPs, so please know the descriptions of these grades before bidding. And please check my other auctions for other LPs you may want to add to your collection. Be high bidder on several and combine shipping on auction items that finish on the same weekend. (NOTE: If more than 1 auction is won by the same bidder, please do NOT make payment until I send an invoice with combined shipping cost.) Winning bidder must remit payment within 5 days of auction close. Add $5.00 for shipping to a U.S. address via USPS media mail with tracking.
