Description
Momie-O (Vickie Anderson).
You're Welcome, Stop On By / Once You Get Started. Funk / Soul. Promo.1975.
"Once You Get Started" by Momie-O (aka Vicki Anderson) is considered a Northern Soul track, specifically a "Crossover Soul" classic. It is a well-regarded cover of the original hit by Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, and it gained significant popularity within the UK soul scene. Here's why it holds this status:
- Artist's background: Momie-O was an alias used by the legendary soul and funk vocalist Vicki Anderson, who was a key singer in James Brown's revue.
- Genre and era: The song was released in 1975, placing it in the mid-1970s period of the Northern Soul scene. Tracks from this era that adopted a funkier and more contemporary sound were known as "Crossover Soul".
- Club popularity: The track became a hit with soul fans and DJs, and its uptempo, funky rhythm made it a floor-filler at Northern Soul all-nighters.
- Collectible single: The 7-inch single is highly sought after by collectors and DJs, especially as it was released on James Brown's I-Dentify label with the B-side "Stop On By".
