All our records are cleaned using distilled water and a vinyl-specific solution, then placed in new rice-paper sleeves (acid-free and anti-static).

Condition Notes

• the disc has a few very light surface scratches each side that did not interfere with playback in any objectionable way in the areas that we checked
• side 2 was played all the way through for an audio quality check; no issues were detected (aside from a single pop, which could have been caused by static) and the record sounds great to our ears! "
• Grading Criteria
  

Our grading is based on the criteria provided by Discogs, though with some modification to allow (in our opinion) for more clear-cut divisions between differing levels of quality.

Grading is an imperfect art and we tend to favor a holistic approach—taking into consideration the entirety of a record (or jacket, insert, etc.), leading to situations where a mixture of EX and VG elements may result in an overall VG+ evaluation. (There may also be cases when a grade is assigned even if not all of the criteria are met: for example, “Jacket is EX despite the presence of a price sticker”. The idea is that the majority of criteria for a grade rank ought to be satisfied. In addition, items that are just shy of the next highest rank may be given the designation borderline; a VG+ disc that is just shy of being EX, for instance, may have the notation ‘disc is borderline EX’.)

We aim to grade conservatively but also acknowledge the inherent subjectivity at work here. As such, we attempt to note exceptional circumstances where relevant but ultimately believe in the power of seeing (and listening) for yourself: please consult the photos and video to double-check our in-house assessments because we want you to be completely satisfied with the item you receive!

NM (near mint)

We reserve the grade of NM for those items that are in exceptionally good condition—especially for their age. (We do not grade items as being Mint as that boundary can be more subjective and highly contested.) Suffice it to say that items with a grade of NM will be in fantastic condition with an ‘almost new’ feeling!

EX (excellent)

A record will show no readily visible scratches or scuffs; there may be a few very fine hairline scratches on the surface (most likely from handling), but they’re only discoverable upon close inspection and do not affect playback. Record jackets, sleeves, and inserts will be in great shape with no immediately observable signs of damage other than very light wear from normal handling.

VG+ (very good plus)

VG+ items show evidence of use yet are still in very good condition. Records will have a limited number of surface scratches that generally do not interfere with playback (aside from an occasional light pop or crackle)—but nothing sustained and certainly no skipping. Jackets, sleeves, and inserts may have light abrasions, limited foxing (age discoloration), and other signs of normal wear from handling. A limited amount of writing or stickers may be present, but not to an overly distasteful or distracting degree.

VG (very good)

Despite the name, the VG grade encompasses a more comprehensive feeling of age, wear, and handling that is not uncommon to an item that has seen a fair amount of use but is nonetheless still in decent shape. Records will have visible scratches and scuffs that result in a tolerable amount of pops, clicks, and crackle—yet without skipping. Jackets, sleeves, and inserts will likely have a combination of stains, splits, tears, and similar age-related issues that are representative of an item that has been well-loved :)

G (good)

In our book, there is a fine line between Good and Fair since both are used to denote significant damage and degradation. We prefer to not list items that fall into these categories unless other aspects justify a shortcoming in one particular area. For example, a VG+ record may have a moderately-stained obi strip that is also completely torn; in this situation, the obi would receive a G grade in the listing because the other merits of the record likely make it desirable to someone, and is thus worth putting up for sale.

Records with a G rating will produce sustained audio issues (pops, clicks, and crackle) that impact the listening experience even if there is little-to-no skipping. Jackets, sleeves, and inserts in this category will likely have a combination of—but perhaps not all—various issues related to moderately heavy wear-and-tear (holes, large tears and splits, tape, sticker residue, etc.)

F (fair or poor)

s we use it, this grade denotes an overall sense of ‘junk’ rather than what ‘fair’ might connote. Records could be cracked or fail to play without repeated skipping. Jackets, sleeves, and inserts will be heavily damaged. Generally speaking, you won’t see a grade of fair/poor unless other aspects of an item for sale outweigh and justify its necessary inclusion.
