Description
Alright, let's talk about this oddball masterpiece: Misfits 1977 debut, "Cough/Cool" b/w "She." It's been 35 years since this humble 45 launched a thousand ugly streetwear designs, embarrassing reunions and ill conceived tattoos, and people are still arguing this record's merit. My two cents? It's a beautiful record, catching one of the most exciting American underground bands of their era in their genesis. Whereas most bands of their ilk's debut stands as their definitive moment (Dead Boys, Ramones, Weirdos, etc), The Misfits legacy of brutality would be approximately exactly the same without this little nugget. So their debut is more of a footnote than a bombast, it's still one of the most unique singles of the period. Sounding like 60's garage mutants crashing into a new wave planet and trying to play it cool. Danzig's Morisson style crooning, evocative lyrics and the spooky atmosphere that would stay with the group through their career, and arguably still persits with his work today, was already apparent on this record. The fact that Danzig had such clear vision from the onset more than makes up for the lack of guitars or mondo distortion.
It's also worth noting that this is the only official vinyl version of these songs to this day. Kind of crazy, if you think about it. And yes, this is 100% legit. You want matrix etchings? Sure:

Lets get the worst part out of the way: the cover here is raw. Seam spits? Big time. Creasing? All over the friggin place. Ringwear? Oh yeah. Some small tears along the top and price sticker remnants ont he back cover are present as well. It sounds bad, sure, but it's a legit sleeve, it's in one piece, and it gets the job done. I'll throw a VG- on her.
The vinyl is nice. Some light surface scratches, but nothing that will affect play. She plays awesome, too, not too loud, no pops, no skips, a smooth ride all around. I'll slap a VG+ on her, no problem.
So there you go, a nice play copy of a classic moment in American creep music history. Bring those bids on!
