Finnadar SR 9001 USA 1972 LP Vinyl: ex
Cover: ex- (stamp on front, sticker on front and back) Rare first release by Mimaroglu's own Finnadar label, containing stunning musique concrete and electronic works composed at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. Wings... and Provocations are sourced entirely from tape-manipulated clarinet sounds. White Cockatoo is subtitled Visual Study No.5 after Jackson Pollock and involves "putting drips and smears of sound on the canvas". Other pieces make use of cut-up and processed voices, instruments, ruber bands, and square waves. Highly recommended and probably the best examples of Mimaroglu's work (and for most of these tracks this is their only release on vinyl).
Mimaroglu studied under Vladimir Ussachevsky and Edgard Varese, composed at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center (alongside Otto Luening, Mario Davidovsky, Bulent Arel, Milton Babbitt, Charles Wuorinen, etc.) and the INA-GRM musique concrete studios (of Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Francois Bayle, Bernard Parmegiani, Luc Ferrari, Michel Chion, Jean-Claude Risset, Francois Bernard Mache, Ivo Malec, Michel Redolfi, etc.), worked with Jean Dubuffet, ran the Finnadar avant garde record label where he produced essential recordings of Marcel Duchamp, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Daria Semegen, Frederic Rzewski, and Henry Cowell, and worked for Atlantic producing jazz albums by Freddie Hubbard, John Coltrane, and Charles Mingus. Other references: Tod Dockstader, Herbert Eimert, Rune Lindblad, Dick Raaijmakers, Ragnar Grippe, Jon Appleton, Jean Michel Jarre, Iannis Xenakis...
