Description
Baron Elmo proudly presents a stunning reggae LP from too-little-known vocalist MILTON HENRY: Who Do You Think I Am? first released in 1984, made available once more for a brief time as a German import on the always great Wackie's label. Henry's handful of classic reggae sides -- like his version of "Gypsy Woman," "Cornbread and Butter," "This World," and "Follow Fashion," cut to Upsetters rhythms (and issued under the artist name King Medious) -- made him a natural Wackie's recruit when he relocated from Jamaica to New York City in the late '70s. Soon after, he was fully involved in the day-to-day business of the operation, supervising sales and promotion, making deliveries, even holding spare keys to the studio for whenever Bullwackies himself was away. This record was released first in London, in 1984, during the first month of Wackies Dean Street office in north Soho. The band is basically Itopia. Jackie Mittoo and Bagga are present; Jerry Johnson and Neville Anderson add brass; Sugar Minott and Max Romeo pitch in on backing vocals while Sonia from the fabulous Love Joys joins Milton for a duet. The songs are excellent, each and every one. "No Dreams" is the true story of Milton sleeping in the attic above the studio when the rough drum and bass track came onto the desk, waking him, pulling him to the microphone; "Them A Devil" is aimed at certain producers passing off the singer's property as their own; "Good Old Days" was written for a poor Junior Byles, remembering times shared. Who Do You Think I Am? is a masterful reggae LP, product of one of the genre's most crucial labels and studios... not to be missed!
