Description

Bach partitas and sonatas for unaccompanied violin
Nathan Milstein    Capitol PCR-8370

This is one of the most inspired and exceptional violin performances in the lp era, and one of the most deeply personal and intuitive interpretations of Bach to be found anywhere.  Milsteins solo performances of Bach were primarily responsible for the huge upswing in their popularity in the same way that Casals "made Bach famous" with his recordings of Bach's largely ignored cello suites in the thirties. Milstein's use of the bow has been described alternately as swordlike, breathtaking, egotistical, glistening and nearly perfect.

This box is from a recently acquired collection of  rare classical lps, some of which I will be selling in the coming weeks. The original owner was a music collector who took great care to preserve the quality of his records as he listened to them.
