I held off buying this Miles classic for years just because it’s not one of the albums that gets as much enthusiastic accolades as Kind of Blue, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain or anything by the First or Second Great Quintets. Well, that was mistaken! The grooves are so deep and complex that you can really get yourself blissfully lost in this music. “Teo” is a particular gem, featuring very unusual drumming and rhythm not normally heard in a jazz context , from the brilliant Jimmy Cobb. This is the last album John Coltrane records with Miles.
