Description
A very rare 1956 copy of Miles Davis Quartet - The Musings Of Miles on the collectable English Esquire label, Catalogue No. 32-012.
Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1955, his initials are etched into the deadwax. Most likely the US metalwork was sent across to Esquire for use in the UK Pressing House.
The heavyweight vinyl has been Degritter cleaned and has a good lustrous sheen but with fine scuffs, trails and hairlines on both sides and more visible trails & lines on Side A particularly across Tracks 2 & 3 ( See photos).
The labels are very clean and fresh with no writing, stickers or other marks and minimal surface spindle trails.
The record plays through extremely well in spite of the marks with the typical vibrant sound quality of these old mono Esquires. Beautiful warm and detailed ,mostly quiet with a few clicks, but surprisingly low noise floor for the age ( 68 years). We paid particular attention to the more marked areas on Side A - it played straight through with no jumping or sticking! We have graded VG based on sound quality.
The fully laminated sleeve is sturdy and solid with no laminate lift, splits, tape or tears. Some light creasing to the spine but still clear and readable. There is age yellowing, ringwear, mild corner rubbing and the beginnings of "frilling" to the opening, but overall, in really great shape for the age.
The original inner sleeve was not present. We have popped the record into a brand new poly lined inner sleeve to preserve it.
A rare opportunity to own this collectable record in good playable condition.
