Description
Initially released in the UK in 1960 on the Fontana labels, Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue' wasn't released on the orange CBS labels in the UK until 1966. This is a rare exception where we find the reissue has more fidelity, clarity, and depth than the previous pressing. Over the years I've heard dozens of pressings of this legendary album and I've concluded that both the UK CBS Stereo(BPG S 62066) and Mono(BPG 62066) copies sound the best. The version for this listing is the Mono mix; and though not in Mint condition (good luck finding one that is!) it still manages to impress and surpass the dynamics of the majority of other pressings. Most UK Lps of this vintage are usually pressed on heavy vinyl; and the one on offer here is no exception. In addition, the labels are fully and heavily textured (see photos) and almost feels like concrete when one runs a finger over them. A much coveted pressing to be sure.
Lp Jacket: VG(+) .....aside from a bit of bubbling to the wonderful lamination and some normal age discoloration at the back, there is really very little to fault here. The spine is still solid and the text is perfectly legible. The 3 flipbacks are all great condition with only some minor creasing. Very hard to find....even in this condition.
Original Inner-Sleeve: Excellent(-)
Record: VG+/-......only the song 'Blue In Green' grades VG- ....the rest of the record grades at least VG and better. For instance, on the first track on Side 1 ("So What") there are a few seconds at the very start when one hears a few light ticks and then the rest of the song grades Excellent. The thing is, the audio is so wonderfully balanced and clear that one can easily overlook the few imperfections that are heard.
