Miles Davis - Chronicle - The Complete Prestige Recordings (Prestige P-12 )

This set represents everything Miles Davis recorded for the Prestige label from 1951 to 1956.

Limited, numbered edition of 12 LPs -- this copy is #5945 out of 10,000 total copies produced. This original 1980 edition includes a LP size 12X12 booklet bound into the collection's 'album' cover. This packaging is similar to the way old 10" 78 collections were packaged in the 1940s, similar to a photo album.

--> This item is from the estate of Ira Gitler (who knew Miles and produced some of the original recording sessions included in this set), an influential jazz critic and historian, and whose writing appeared regularly in magazines like DownBeat and JazzTimes. He wrote several books on the subject including multiple editions of The Encyclopedia of Jazz. Ira Gitler was also one of the most prodigious writers of liner notes, annotating more than 700 albums. In 2017 he was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The twelve LPs are in Mint/Near Mint condition -- barely if ever played. The paper-covered binding "box" (the LPs are enclosed in envelopes bound into the cover) is in VG condition with splits apparent at the top and bottom of the spine, which has yellowed. Some light yellowing around the edge of the insert/booklet pages. a couple of corners are also bumped or fraying.
