In 1959, Miles Davis formed a sextet including John Coltrane, as well as the altoist Cannonball Adderley and pianist Bill Evans. With this band Davis made a couple of albums including the legendary 'Kind of Blue' and changed jazz music forever. Davis reached a peak he never scaled again, although he put together another very celebrated band in the mid Sixties, with Wayne Shorter on tenor, Herbie Hancock on piano and Tony Williams on drums. But this kind of rather abstract jazz was losing its public by the end of the Sixties and Davis decided that something had to be done. His solution was to blend his music with the newly ascendant rock, thus in effect inventing jazz-rock fusion. Here the crucial album was 'Bitches Brew' which was released in 1969. It launched yet another new phase in the career of Miles Davis, and made him more famous than ever. 'Bitches Brew' is one of the most remarkable creative statements of the last half-century, in any artistic form. It was as if a new language had been invented....a new sound whose author was Miles Davis...and though John McLaughlin doesn't play (guitar) on every track, his contribution to the final product was significant enough to have a track named after him.
The copy offered in this listing is the much desired Quadraphonic pressing from Japan (SOPJ 58~59) released on the Sony label. One does not have to have a "Quad" system to appreciate the stunning audio on these 2 records. The album was remixed for the quadraphonic format and playback in Stereo reveals much more nuanced information in the instruments; especially in the guitars and keyboards. An essential version for fans of this incredible album.
Condition of Gatefold Lp Jacket: Near Mint(-) .....superb condition, with colors strikingly vivid; all the better to appreciate Mati Klarwein's amazing artwork. The cardboard used in the construction of this gatefold jacket is thick and heavy with no tears or signs of ring wear. Some inoffensive circular discoloration marks appear on the inside of the gatefold but it does not distract. Original Japanese insert is included. No Obi.
Condition of 2 Records: Near Mint....displaying beautiful gloss with only some superficial sleeve removal marks which have no bearing on the stunning audio.
