Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud - Sam 10" LP

Limited-edition 10" mono reissue from Sam Records — remastered from the original master tapes and faithful to the soundtrack's first 10" release. Recorded over two December 1957 nights for Louis Malle's film noir "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud" ("Elevator to the Gallows"), this score finds Miles Davis improvising live to the picture alongside a French rhythm section — Barney Wilen on tenor saxophone, René Urtreger on piano, Pierre Michelot on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. Davis' open, aching tone gives the music an elegant, after-hours melancholy that recalls his early-'50s sessions with Clarke. Sam Records restores the album to its original 10" format with a laminated fold-over jacket and a bonus black-and-white photo of Miles in Paris.
