Item Description Title: Michael Jackson – Thriller (Original 1982 US First Pressing w/ Rare Co-Producer Cover Misprint & Early -2G Matrix)

  • Michael Jackson - Thriller LP (1982 Vinyl) Rare Co-Producer Cover Error VG+
Item Overview:
Up for sale is an authentic, highly collectible 1982 US first pressing of Michael Jackson’s historic album, Thriller. This specific copy features the rare, uncorrected first-issue back cover error and an early production matrix runout, making it a must-have variation for serious vinyl collectors. Collectible Error & Matrix Details:
  • The Sleeve Misprint: This features the genuine first-pressing jacket. The bottom of the back cover completely omits Michael Jackson's co-producer credit, reading only: "Produced by Quincy Jones for Quincy Jones Productions." (Epic Records corrected this layout error shortly after the initial release).
  • Dead Wax Inscription: The Side 1 runout groove is hand-etched with the definitive early-press matrix: PAL 38112-2G. This -2G designation verifies that this vinyl belongs to the very first winter 1982 manufacturing batch running alongside the misprinted cover artwork.
Condition Report:
  • Vinyl Media (VG+): The record retains a beautiful, bright original gloss. Under direct light, it shows only a few minor cosmetic hairlines and superficial paper scuffs that do not affect playback. It plays through beautifully with excellent, clean analog sound quality.
  • Gatefold Sleeve (VG): The jacket is solid, structurally sound, and intact. It displays light, honest age wear, including minor ring wear outlines on the front/back and slight soft creasing near the spine edges. No heavy splits, writing, or major stains.
  • Inner Sleeve: Includes the original lyrics/credits paper inner sleeve, showing standard minor wrinkling from handling but no major tears.
