The Stone Poneys
Evergreen Vol. 2
1967 vinyl LP 12” record album
Capitol ST2763
Between the TV show and the music, large portions of my childhood were under the influence of The Monkees. Now that Mike Nesmith has passed, I regret I didn’t follow his career during my adult life. It’s incredible all the things he did and the large number that he did first.
This album is a benchmark because he wrote “Different Drum” which launched the career of Linda Ronstadt and the country/folk/rock style of music to whom so many of my fav artists owe a debt.
If you read the album cover, you’ll notice Linda Marie Ronstadt who shortened her name shortly afterwards in the beginning of a very long and successful career. Her voice was undoubtedly one of the greatest female vocalists of these modern times.
This vintage record was enjoyed often in the past and recently emancipated from storage. In my opinion, it ranges between G++ and VG conservatively assessed according to Goldmine standards. Play testing on a low grade Crosley reproduction turntable with a plastic needle revealed some minor skipping during “one on one” and the entire album features a soft madrigal style which tends to emphasize noise.
The cover has a hole punch in the top right corner. During the history of modern record sales, this was commonly done by record stores while the album was still factory sealed in shrinkwrap to indicate it belonged in the bargain bin. The inner sleeve has a hole that matches the cover so it’s the original and has a plain white design that shows some browning from age.
