Metallica And Justice For All 2 12” Vinyl 1988 Original US Elektra.
I brought this home in 1988 and filed it away in my vinyl collection. Because I had the CDs, I never listened to any Metallica vinyl.
Due to the contract Metallica had with their record label, very few “promotional” copies, were pressed.
When Elektra records wanted to give Metallica records to radio stations, they came out of retail lots and were stamped with a promotional serial number and in the case with this album, a notch was cut out of the top back of the spine to prevent the album from going back to retail.
Unfortunately, I did not use the greatest care when squeezing these pieces of vinyl into my wooden crates. Not only that, when I moved, I had to turn the crates of vinyl on their sides in order to carry them from the bottom. I didn’t realize until years later that doing so caused the vinyl to shift in the inner sleeves. As you can see, this caused the vinyl to tear a slit in the side of the inner sleeves.
The outer sleeve has some wrinkles where I didn’t use the best of care in filing them into the crates.
I can’t explain the hand written 85 in the top left corner on the front of the outer sleeve. Radio station music directors had a strange way of keeping inventory. I have no idea what the 85 represents.
The vinyl is pristine. As far as I can tell, when I pull the vinyl out of the inner sleeves for inspection this was the first time they have been out of their sleeves since 1988.
