Description
This is a very nice copy of Speaker’s Corner 180g pressing of Mendelssohn’s “Fingal’s Cave” and “Symphony No. 3 (Scotch)” with the London Symphony Orchestra under Peter Maag on 4 180g 45 RPM records. The 45 RPM set is a complete recording Decca SXL-2246. When I first bought this new, the records were cleaned with a VPI record cleaner and treated with LAST record preservative. More recently it was recleaned with Audio Intelligent Fluids on a VPI cleaner and on an Audio Desk ultra sonic record cleaner. It has also been demagnetized with a Furutech DeMag. The recording is very open with a large soundstage, beautiful sound, and very clear separation of instruments. Side 1 plays mostly very quietly with only some low-level surface noise in a few spots. Sides 2 and 3 have a few light ticks over each side but are generally very quiet. Side 4 plays very quietly with very little noticeable surface noise. There are no scratches or scuffs. I have only played the records a few times on various VPI tables I have owned (HW-19 MKIV, TNT 3.5, and Classic 4) using either Lyra or Benz Mico Ruby cartridges. The sound is naturally open and detailed. The records are house in inner sleeves within a cardboard wrapper. This all slides into an outer slipcase. There are no seam splits but the lower left corner of the slip case has a slight compression. Only side A of each LP is pressed. Side B is blank. As far as I am aware, Speaker’s Corner only ever issued this set and the one for La Fille mal Gardee as 45 rpm sets. Like their 33 rpm pressings, these 45 rpm sets are very nicely done with excellent sound. Multiple records can be combined in an order to save shipping costs.
