Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 Uk albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years or more. Here is an early 1st issue 1st UK pressing of Paul McCartney's Tug Of War. What makes this stand out from the rest is its absolutely astounding condition! This album was purchased from new and initially only played one time to record to tape, it was then stored in a case with the record separated from the cover and more importantly the sleeve which normally is always found split, but not this one, it looks like the day that it was purchased from new in my opinion. The record was played again one time prior to this listing and its no surprise that this vinyl not only looks like a new vinyl but sounds absolutely stunning. There was no clicks or pops through out. Any audiophiles out there will know that although there are a few copies out there, most suffer from nasty static and crackle.  34 years old like this!

Tug of War is the fourth solo studio album by English rock musician Paul McCartney, released in 1982. It is the follow-up to the 1980 album McCartney II, and his first official solo album after the dissolution of Wings in April 1981.





The recording sessions for the album reunited McCartney with producer George Martin. Tug of War was also McCartney's first album after the death of his former Beatles bandmate John Lennon.





Following McCartney II's release, Wings regrouped in October 1980 to begin what would be their final recording sessions, whereby several songs later to appear on Tug of War and Pipes of Peace were rehearsed and recorded.





Feeling the need for direction, McCartney called upon his old producer, George Martin, to begin recording a song written for the animated Rupert Bear character (to which McCartney owned the rights), entitled "We All Stand Together", among others.






The productive sessions continued until 9 December, the morning McCartney woke up to discover his old songwriting partner and fellow ex-Beatle, John Lennon, had been shot and killed the night before in New York City. Abandoning that day's session part-way through (where he and Denny Laine were recording future B-Side "Rainclouds"), both Martin and McCartney felt it was best to leave the project for the time being and start anew once they were ready.





In February 1981, two months after Lennon's death, Paul McCartney resumed his sessions, recording that month with Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Carl Perkins and Ringo Starr and laying down several songs in the process.


 


The recordings were held at AIR Studios in Montserrat, in the Caribbean and lasted from 3 February to 2 March, ending with Ebony and Ivory and What's That You're Doing, two songs featuring Stevie Wonder.




10cc guitarist Eric Stewart also became a frequent collaborator of McCartney's during this era. Further sessions that summer were also undertaken at George Martin's AIR studios at Oxford Street, London – with the producer manning the controls and giving McCartney's music the benefit of 1980s technology.





The sessions were so productive that several of its tracks would be held over for the next album, Pipes of Peace, which followed in 1983. The rest of 1981 would be spent in a quiet fashion, with McCartney and Martin touching up the album and perfecting it.





In March 1982, McCartney's duet with Stevie Wonder, "Ebony and Ivory", was released to broad acclaim.




It reached number 1 in many countries and did much to restore McCartney's critical reputation after what was viewed as a lean period for him. Consequently, when Tug of War appeared in April, it was an immediate worldwide number 1, selling several million copies and was received strongly by the public, even being nominated for the "Album of the Year" Grammy in 1983. The follow-up single "Take It Away" was a US Top 10 entry as well.

The Vinyl
This is the original thicker /heavier type of vinyl only found like this on the earliest 1st pressings. The vinyl is free of any warping and lays perfectly flat on the turntable!
On inspection the vinyl looks like a new vinyl and I find it hard to even see a blemish at all on the playing surface. Certainly no audio sounding marks at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen angled to the light would be sleeve removal only. Visually this vinyl is Near Mint in my personal opinion!

The Audio Quality!
I have played this vinyl at very loud volume on a top system prior to this listing and recorded the complete album for you to hear for your self in the player above! There is not much more that I can say other than the Audio is as good as it gets in my personal opinion. Cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! No distortion No Clicks or pops Near Mint as good as it gets!


PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 34 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd static/crackle but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 34 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played in my personal opinion and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.


The Labels
These are the original 1st issue Custom Parlophone Labels! These look almost as new in my opinion. Just barely a spider trace on one side indicating that this has obviously barely been played no more than a couple of times ever! There is no wear around the spindle hole it is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original card picture lyric sleeve! Important to note that there are no edge splits (Very rare to find) Any fading/browning is very slight.  no creases!

The Cover
This is the original 1st issue Garrod & Lofthouse un-laminated cover! This cover is almost like new there is not much more to say! No creases no real nasty rubbing wear no real ring wear. Any marks or scuffing you have to look to notice any in my opinion.  graded at least excellent plus to Near as Mint in my opinion. Just try to find a better copy, very very rare to find after 34years like this!
