MARTA KUBISOVA: Songy a balady/Supraphon 0 13 0855/ rare MONO -  the classic Marta Kubisova LP Songy A Balady recorded in Czechoslovakia in 1969. This is considered a landmark LP and is a great example of fuzzed out Czech psych/freakbeat from the period. One track, Tak Dej Se K Nam A Projdem Svet, has a monster drum and bass breakbeat on the intro! Marta Kubisova:Songy a balady     One reviewer says:"A bit of a counter-culture legend in her homeland, Ms Kubisova (as well as being a bit of a fox) blew it up on that groovy fuzz pop tip. This LP is mainly kind dull pop standard fare, but gets lifted to rarified heights with the breakbeat and fuzz groove bomb that is ‘Tak dej se k nam a projdem  svet’ (which probably means, “these drums will burst your f*cking eardrums”! Starts off with one of the toughest and cleanest breaks you’ll hear this year (would rival the best Zalatnay Sarolta stuff) for about 4 bars, then some dirty fuzz guitar comes in and the whole tune just rips into a great dancefloor groover.’Ne’ is on a similar tip, but lacks the hard groove, still worth playing out though.The album begins with a solid cover of Beatles' Hey Jude, which basically follows the original version except that it's sung in Czech just like the rest of the record. Another climax of the album is the intense psychedelic sitar folk song Balada o kornetovi a dívce (The Ballad Of The Cornette And The Girl). Not that well-known yet, so get in on the ground floor and treat yourself to some good grooves from behind the Iron Curtain!” "
