Description
This is my trusty Silver Jubilee 2554 JCM 25/50 1x12 Valve Combo. It’s a fantastic sounding amp and very rare.
I bought it from a guy at school called Seton Daunt in ’93 who later went on to be in a band called Fiction Plane – If I’d had prescience I’d have got him to autograph it or something as they’re currently supporting The Police on their reunion tour…anyway this to my knowledge was his first amp.
This amp has only been gigged a few times (performed great) but has a couple of nicks in the tolex as would be expected for a vintage amp (it was made in ’87).
Lots of user testimonials can be found on www.harmonycentral.com - it will give you an idea of just how good this amp is.
To commemorate his 50 years in music and 25 years in the amplifier business, Jim Marshall introduced a limited edition collection of tube amps and cabinets in 1987. The amps, based on the 2203 and 2204 master volume designs, were known as the "25/50 Silver Jubilee" Series models. The products were distinctive, with their silver vinyl covering and chrome panels. They also featured a special commemorative plastic plate on each amp,
These long discontinued and highly sought after JCM 2550 amps have many high profile users (John Frusciante, Slash, Joe Walsh etc.) and the 2554 was regarded as the best of the combos by many at the time.
The control panel features, from left to right...
- Input,
- Input Gain, first stage gain allowing Glassy Clean to AC/DC Style crunch. Pull for Rythm Clip this adds more fat crunch.
- Lead Master, controls the gain and volume for lead sounds.
- Output, overall "master"volume. Pull to switch channels.
- Treble.
- Middle.
- Bass.
- Presence.
- Low/High Output, switches between 25 watts power output and 50 watts allowing the power amp stage to be run hot at lower volumes.
- Standby.
- Power.
At the rear are:
- inputs for additional speaker cabinets that can be used in conjunction or instead of the built in Celestion.
- Mono effects loop
- Voltage control so the amp can be used on strange foreign voltages ;-)
- Impedance control for when different/additional speakers are used. (n.b. for valve amp newbies this is REALLY important as operating the amp with wrong setting dialled in here can do some expensive damage)
The Auction includes the power lead and footswitch.
For those interested in bidding from a memorabilia/fan basis please note I do not have any documentation etc. that I bought this from Seton – we were both 17/18 at the time and at school.
