Description

Marian Henderson MCA LP ~ Aussie acoustic folk 1970

Marian Henderson – Cameo LP (orig. Australia STEREO MCA MAP/S 2122—1970)

Release date: April 1970.  Running time: 44:20 (approx).

EXTREMELY RARE album by this folk-singer from SYDNEY—AUSTRALIA.  When I chanced upon my first copy of this LP a few years ago, I was completely taken by surprise.  Although I was aware of her various 1960s troubadour-folk style recordings, I had not previously known about this highly obscure album release.

This is a marvellous LP with many highlights including ‘Antique Annie’s Magic Lantern Show’, ‘Stranger Song’ (Leonard Cohen), ‘Lady Of Carlisle’, ‘Fotheringay’ (Sandy Denny) and ‘First Boy I Loved’ (Robin Williamson—Incredible String Band).  Spellbinding acoustic folk with beautiful emotive vocals and the able assistance of Doug Ashdown and John Jackson on guitars.  Wholeheartedly recommended!

The track ‘Fotheringay’ is only available on the Australian issue of this album (i.e. the UK and US versions omit this track).
