Scarce FULL SWIRL VERTIGO LABEL ISSUE 15-track vinyl LP of the second album from the English folk-rock group, produced by Gus Dudgeon and featuring an all-star supporting cast of musicians including Rick Wakeman, Tim Renwick, Davy Johnstone and Tony Visconti. Housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with lyrics printed inside. The record is in Excellent condition and sounds as wonderful as ever with just a little light crackle here and there as you would expect after 40+ years. While the cover and inner sleeve are in Excellent Condition. See pics. A very nice collector’s copy of this excellent example of early 70s British progressive folk-rock.

This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine “full swirl” vertigo label issue. The record is in excellent condition with only a little light crackle here and there and the cover and inner sleeve are in excellent to excellent plus condition. All items are free from any major defects. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1972, not reprints or replacements. The LP is the original UK stereo LP as distributed in the UK, which was only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.

Magna Carta is a Progressive rock group originally formed in London in April 1969; their first concert was on 10 May 1969, by Chris Simpson (guitar, vocals), Lyell Tranter (guitar, vocals), and Glen Stuart (vocals).
The trio released albums for Fontana Records and Vertigo Records, enjoying particular success with 1970's Seasons before Tranter returned to Australia. Davey Johnstone joined the line-up as his replacement, recording Songs From Wasties Orchard and In Concert with the band before leaving to work with Elton John, with whom he is still playing.

Seasons represents one of Magna Carta's top three albums. If only for side one with the "Seasons Suite' taking up the whole of the vinyl side in one event. Two key factors to Magna Carta's brand of folkish prog music are Chris Simpson, the creative force behind the group and also Glen Stuart whose blend of vocals with Chris Simpson helped create that trademark sound and harmonized vocal sounds. They are often compared to Simon and Garfunkel, the main reason being Chris Simpson's wispy sounding voice being similar to that of Art Garfunkel more than Paul Simon. They are also quite similar sounding to an American duo from the 70s called Aztec Two Step.
The "Seasons suite" has a great pastoral feel starting off with the Winter Song, with poetic narration from Chris Simpson through to the Autumn Song with the combined vocals of Simpson and Stuart throughout. Light folk in parts too but undeniably a concept piece with some great guitar, mainly acoustic. The second side seems to be more of a haphazard affair with a few shining songs like 'Give Me No Goodbye' and the closer ' Airport Song'. It is great to see that Tim Fenwick of Pink Floyd fame played recorder not to mention contributions from Davey Johnstone, the infamous Tony Visconti and last but not least a Mr. Rick Wakeman. Recommended to those people who like Steelye Span, Fairport Convention, Aztec Two Step and Simon and Garfunkel.

A fantastic time warp example of this rarity in amazing condition, a true investment grade item - get it while you can!
